Brake Pads & Discs in Upington and Kathu

Your brakes turn speed into heat. When you press the pedal, the calipers squeeze the brake pads against the discs (or the shoes against the drums at the rear of many bakkies) and the friction slows the vehicle down. On Northern Cape roads, with long gravel stretches, heavy loads, towing and dust, pads and discs wear faster than most service books suggest, so it pays to check them often.

Signs your brakes need attention

  • A high-pitched squeal or grinding metal sound when braking
  • The pedal feels soft, spongy or goes down further than usual
  • The steering wheel or pedal shudders when you brake from speed
  • The vehicle pulls to one side under braking
  • Visible grooves or a lip on the edge of the brake disc
  • The brake warning light comes on

Brake Pads & Discs: FAQs

Should I replace brake discs when I replace the pads?

Not always. If the discs are below minimum thickness, warped or deeply grooved, they should be replaced or skimmed. Bring the old disc in or ask your workshop to measure it.

Do you have brake pads for my Hilux or Ranger?

We carry brake parts for the most common bakkies in the Northern Cape, including Hilux, Ranger, D-Max and NP200. If an item is not on the shelf we can usually order it in.
