The timing belt keeps your engine's camshaft and crankshaft in sync. If it snaps, many engines suffer serious internal damage. The auxiliary or fan belt drives the alternator, aircon, power steering and sometimes the water pump. Heat and dust age rubber belts, so following your replacement interval is essential.
